A Bit About Amy

Amy Van Hooser has enjoyed studying communication since college. Early in her marriage, she worked in customer service and marketing, did freelance graphic art, and taught gymnastics and dance. While working in marketing, she also volunteered with her church’s youth group and served as a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters.

In 2006, Amy became a stay-at-home mom when her first son was born. She quickly discovered that motherhood was harder than she expected, but she also found community, support, and value through the women of La Leche League International (LLLI). In 2008, she stepped into leadership with LLLI and continued serving for more than 10 years. During that time, she facilitated mother-to-mother support groups, responded to emails and phone calls, served as a local and area director, and trained other Leaders.

While serving with LLLI, Amy returned to school and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2016. She planned to eventually open a private practice when her boys were a bit older.

In 2015, after years of practicing and creating art, Amy started her first small business, Bestowing Henna, creating natural, temporary body art. Her love of art and connecting with people came together through this work. She found it a true gift to be welcomed into people’s personal space and trusted with their stories.

Prayer gradually became another significant part of Amy’s journey. During the 2019–2020 school year, the Lord called her to lead a Moms in Prayer group, which deepened her life of prayer. In 2021, she joined the prayer team at her local church, and that same year, she felt the Lord leading her to enroll in Ascend Academy School of Ministry in Atlanta, Georgia.

As Amy continued growing in her relationship with the Lord and serving others, He began asking her to surrender things she had built. In June 2022, the Lord told her to give away both of her small businesses—Bestowing Henna and the supplies she had collected to begin her IBCLC private practice. Not knowing what was coming next made the decision difficult. She grieved what she was giving up, but chose obedience. In late 2022, the Lord began speaking to her about what would eventually become Raising Generals.

From fall 2022 through spring 2025, Amy also served in her church’s youth group as a middle school girls’ small group leader. In August 2023, she graduated from Ascend Academy School of Ministry and was ordained.

Amy was homeschooled growing up and always planned to homeschool her own children. Today, raising, instructing, and equipping her five sons remains her primary full-time calling. While homeschooling is not always as easy as being the student herself, Amy loves having her boys at home and the opportunity to train them not only in academics but also in life skills, character, faith, and leadership.

In the summer of 2023, Amy was looking for a community where her boys could grow deeper in the Lord alongside other young men who desired the same. She saw a gap. That fall, she created a teen boys’ spiritual disciplines class on Zoom. What began as a small class grew into a vision for something larger.

In 2024, Amy launched Raising Generals, a ministry with the mission of healing, equipping, and activating leaders to step onto the spiritual battlefield and advance the Kingdom of God. Through Raising Generals, Amy disciples and equips people in different seasons and stages of life, including teens and women, while also speaking to parents, men, and broader audiences. Her teaching and mentoring often focus on spiritual disciplines, identity, emotional maturity, leadership, communication, and learning to hear and follow God.

Amy is passionate about relational discipleship and creating spaces where people can share openly, process what God is doing in their lives, and grow in their relationship with Him. She loves helping people encounter God, discover who He created them to be, and step confidently into the work He has called them to do. Her desire is to see people who are not simply converted, but discipled—people who know God, discern truth, walk through difficulty, and are willing to step onto the spiritual battlefield to advance the Kingdom of God.
